Cadence

A Study in Contrasts

Located in downtown Tucson, The Cadence serves as a vibrant “public gateway” for University of Arizona students, blending college life with urban living. This innovative project elevates the student experience with luxurious amenities, including a pool area with an outdoor movie projector, a video game room, a golf simulator, tanning beds, and multiple fire pits. Our multidisciplinary team crafted an interior design that reflects the project’s unique context and vision for dynamic urban living. Upon entry, students encounter natural materials like petrified wood and polished stone, enhanced by full-height wall graphics and bright pops of color. A reclaimed wood canopy flows from the exterior into the interior, creating a cohesive atmosphere. The sleek media room features a custom table made from hemlock wood and steel by local artists, while the Great Room serves as a modern lounge for study and relaxation. An activity room, filled with color, provides games and encourages social interaction among residents. To balance darker hues in carpets and lighting, bright colors—citrus green, red, and turquoise—infuse the main areas and corridors. The interplay of rusted Corten steel fireplaces with smooth white stucco and natural wood against a neutral palette creates a vibrant rhythm that reflects the location’s energy. The Cadence redefines student housing, offering an urban living experience that enhances the college journey within a lively community.
