The Standard at Seattle Mid-Rise

Functional and Stylish Student Spaces

The smallest of three structures connected by a pedestrian corridor neighboring the University of Washington, The Standard at Seattle’s CLT (cross-laminated timber) mid-rise building offers uniquely intimate off-campus housing to students, framed by natural materials. The use of exposed mass timber, uncommon in Seattle student housing, presented an exciting opportunity to highlight this functional and stylish material. The design palette, featuring vibrant colors and patterns, energizes the space, while natural textures—stone and exposed timber—draw inspiration from the Pacific Northwest’s marine ecosystems, lush forests, and mountain ranges. Shared spaces driven by hospitality and academic pursuits provide student residents with a variety of study spots they can choose to use at any time or day of the week. Our approach to each of The Standard’s units was heavily influenced by efficient layouts and informed by our deep experience in student housing. The premium appliances and finishes selected are beautiful and long lasting, helping reimagine student’s expectations for on-campus housing. For its residents, living at The Standard means studying, connecting with the 1500 other student residents, and cultivating a healthy work/life balance in state-of-the-art student housing that feels every bit as inviting as it looks.
