In Sherwood, OR, we partnered with Rembold to create The Ackerly at Sherwood, a senior-living community that feels more like a bright, hotel-inspired apartment building than traditional housing. Featuring 107 assisted living units and 28 memory care beds, the design challenges typical expectations by blending insights from urban living and hospitality to create a colorful, inviting, and modern environment. The Ackerly at Sherwood is defined by a sense of openness. Its ground-floor amenities are distinct yet seamlessly connected, with subtle changes in finishes and ceiling treatments marking different areas. A bistro doubles as a coffee bar by day and wine bar by night, with a folding glass wall opening to the adjacent activity room. Other spaces, like the tech area, library, and dining prefunction, are designed to be multifunctional, adapting to residents' needs. A wellness wing includes a fitness center, salon and spa, massage rooms, and a telemedicine space. Unit layouts are thoughtfully designed, with two-bedroom suites featuring shared bathrooms at the front. Wide corridors facilitate movement through memory care, and each unit entry is framed by Adirondack chairs and different flooring materials, enhancing the sense of community. Cedar accents and natural wood finishes bring the outdoors in, while carpet patterns evoke aerial views of the Willamette Valley’s farmland. At The Ackerly at Sherwood, we’ve crafted a light-filled, dynamic space that balances color, texture, and natural elements to energize, soothe, and create a welcoming home for its residents.
