C-TRAN Campus Maintenance Building

Concrete Connections

Containing enough equipment for the upkeep and maintenance of six buses at a time, the C-TRAN Campus Maintenance Building was developed by paying close attention to the operational flow of the buses and maintenance employees on-site. Following site diagrams of how the buses enter the facility and identifying what they need before they are sent back out on the road again, we talked through the different users that come to the site, making room for every type of transportation vehicle from trucks and vans, to special types of buses like short buses or articulated buses. Machinery dedicated to different levels of maintenance and upkeep allow buses to come into the facility, fill up with fuel, wash grime and excess fuel off the exterior of the vehicle, and then park in a special spot to have their fare money offloaded and counted before being sent back out on their route. Opening towards the Operations Building, the Maintenance Building utilizes its concrete exterior to connect with the concrete masonry units (CMU) on the Operation Building and blend in with the rest of the site. Even though it’s a new build, it feels like it has been a part of the campus for ages. The visual connection between sites reinforces another unseen connection; maintenance employees are encouraged to utilize the amenities within the Operations Building during their breaks, solidifying the campus as a hub of comprehensive support for all C-TRAN employees.
